1,611 views | Subscribe | PDF I’m very pleased with Hostgator’s website hosting.  Even more so on that wonderful day when I read the following: You must be a HostGator customer to get access to our free templates. Click Here to order an account now. That’s when I knew that I had access to all of the thousands of beautiful web templates that’s available on the site.  Most of them come in both html and flash formats.  I can actually select if I want a flash site or a simple html site template simply because I chose to be a hostgator web host customer . Editing Free Hostgator Templates All free hostgator templates are editable.  For instance, let’s take a look at the Hostgator template thats filenamed, HG_1508-752389. The top head image may need editing if you’re looking to customize the template to fit your needs. The faster way to customize the head image is to simply replace it with another if you have a banner thats already established for your site.   To accomplish such a replacement, you’ll need to know the filename of that particular image.  In this case the head image is called flash.gif.  I viewed the template in a brower, then right-clicked on the image to reveal the filename and size.  Lastly, I uploaded the banner image I wanted to used and gave it the same name and same size as the one shown in the free template, flash.gif. At this point you may want to alter the template colors to match the new head banner image.  This is when you’ll head to the free template files to find the psd.  The psd file can be opened with Adobe Photoshop for editing.  After opening the file, you’ll see the whole site design.  Its composed of many layers, so you’ll need to establish a starting point. How to Find the Photoshop Layer I chose to start with the text box directly beneath the new head banner, but then I had to find it.  The layer, that is.  I discovered that the layer I sought was “layer 9″ by toggling the “ Display or Hide a Layer in Photoshop ” icon for each layer. To hide or show a layer simply click the eye icon as explained here .  Hiding and then showing the layer will reveal the layer as it revealed that I needed to edit “layer 9″ as shown above.  Read more about the eye icon and this “Introduction to Layers” tutorial . So after you found the layer you’d like to edit, its okay to change its look or color or even add a gradient . And now, I’m off to find the next layer to complete the rest of the template customization for the site design and optimization ! With the multi rewrite mod you have several different choices for how you want to write the URLs for your article and detail pages. You have control over both the title and the extension for the url that will be rewritten. Let’s suppose this page was the title of your article (Multi Rewrite Mod). For the first part of the url you have two choices: Article-42 (where 42 is the id of the article) Multi-Rewrite-Mod-42 (where 42 is the id of the article) For the extenstion of the url you have 4 choices: .htm .html .php / (you would select “no extension”) Here is a screenshot to better illustrate: Multi Rewrite Mod PHPLD Download : Link Removed!
